The Serra de Tramuntana, in the North West of Mallorca, has recently been voted a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its a walkers and ramblers paradise, with a network of trails and treks suitable for the whole range of Mallorcan Holiday Walkers, from the barely ambulatory to those training for Everest. And where better to base youself than Hotel Son Ametler, our small, boutique hotel in the foothills of those mountains beween the villages of Caimari, Selva and Moscari. The Monestry of Lluc is some half hour away (five hours on foot, up a wonderful old pilgramage trail), and there are a number of fine walks within easy range of our small, charming hotel. Hotel Son Ametler is open throughout the Spring and Autumn, and from our finca hotel we can organise guided walks, Mallorcan walking guides, or simply supply you a range of books and maps - our favourite two are the Rother Guide , and this great Alpina Tramuntana GR11 book and map set. There are many adventurous trails up the mostly limestone and carst hills, and careful route selection can offer routes with shade from the Aleppo Pines and Indigenous Rowan Oaks which surround many of the lower hills. The mountains of Puig Tomir, Puig Masanella (and we can even organise routes up to Piug Major with enough notice) present serious challenges for the seasoned walker, wheras the Castel of Alaro, the Boquer Valley and the walks around Lluc offer some wonderful half-day routes. Whatever your Mallorcan Walking Holiday ambitions are, Hotel Son Ametler can provide everything except the legpower - you can even buy your own Mallorquin Hiking Boots here:
Our boutique hotel is set in 25,000m2 of its own Olive groves, and has wonderful views of the mountains and local villages, and the luxuriously appointed rooms, with jaccuzzi baths, terraces, and GOOD heating and Airconditioning, make it a wonderful hotel to return to after a hard days walking.
No matter if your aspirations are large or small, at Hotel Son Ametler we have the walk, hike, stroll, amble, summit or expedition for you!
